The Many Formats of Reading

I'm reading 3 books right now...yes, 3. This is what happens when you read hard copies, have a Kindle, and of course, a CD player in your car to listen to audiobooks -- and let me tell you, they have a great selection of audiobooks at the library. The next thing I'll be doing is listening to and reading books on my iPhone. Nope, I'm limiting myself to 3. There are only so many characters and story lines I can keep track of at one time.

The wonderful Heather Robbins from SupaGurl Books sent me a personalized copy of Clockwork Prince, #2 in the Infernal Devices. Thanks, love *sends hugs your way*! I am over halfway done and LOVING this book. I find I read this at night before I go to bed. I like to snuggle into bed and open it up in the complete quiet. This is why I'm not finished already, lol. The chapters are long so I only get a chapter or 2 in before I fall asleep. I do fall asleep very happy though. Awesome book!

On my Kindle I am reading Descended by Blood, which is also a great read. My Kindle says I'm about 50% finished. I bring my Kindle everywhere, so I love to pull it out while I'm waiting for appointments, etc. or downstairs hanging out with the family. My Kindle is always with me.

Last but not least, I am listening to Wolfsbane on audiobook. I'm at the very end of Wolfsbane and can't wait to see how it ends. I listened to it on a trip this weekend and of course I pulled into my driveway at the very end. Now I wish I'd just sat in the driveway and finished. I NEED to know what happens...

Oh yeah, and did I mention I am also working on Dark Return, due out at the end of this year. I'm so excited about Book #2 in the Seeker Series.

Do you find that with more options for reading (electronic, hard copy, audio) that you are reading a lot more books at the same time? If so, how do you feel about it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers!! :)

  1. Nice to meet you!
Anyway, I'm reading three books right now, too:

The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima (Hardcover)
The Hating Game by Talli Roland (Kindle)
The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan (CD)

Amazingly, I haven't gotten any of them mixed up!

    1. Hi Jess,

So nice to meet you too! Thanks for leaving a comment. I'll have to check out your 1st two books. Definitely love Rick Riordan.

Haha, I know what you mean. I thought I'd get them mixed up, but when I pick them back up I know right where I am and what's happening :)

  2. NO! I can only read one book at a time! I go into complete book world submersion... I am so vested when I read that I couldn't handle more than 1 at a time.

Now, I do switch back and forth between my real books and my kindle app :) they both get equal read time and no no no I cannot listen to a book... I get totally lost and couldn't tell you what in the world was going on LOL

    <3 and huggs!!

    1. Haha, Heather, you are too funny! Miss ya! What do you do when you are out of the house and you are in the middle of reading a print copy? I feel lost without a book and my Kindle travels everywhere I go. My worst fear is being somewhere without a book. I see what you mean about immersing yourself into one book though :)

  4. There's just so many good books, I'm still getting to try and read Clockwork Prince, but I'm currently reading four other books. They are all in physical book form, though.

    Unearthly by Cynthia Cand
    Full-moon by Ellen Schreiber
    Dark Passage by M.J. Putney
    Shade by Jeri Smith-Reay

    1. Hi Alicia,

Oooo, I really want to read Unearthly. Off the top of my head I'm not sure if I've heard of the others - maybe Shade - but I'll definitely check them out. I'm really visual so I'll have to check out the covers to be sure. Thanks for commenting and enjoy the books :)

  5. Yesss! Me too! I'm reading Darkfever on my iPhone app, and I'm reading Everneath as paper and print.

I find I read faster when I read eBooks... I don't know if it's that my eyes move faster over the screen, or if I can find more time to read bits and pieces in the little moments I wouldn't be able to with a physical copy--I can read a few pages on my phone when I walk downstairs to get coffee, while I walk from the office to the car, while I wait in the line for lunch, those kinds of things? It's also easier to read shorter pages of text when I'm being disrupted by friends/phone calls/husbandman, but when I get disrupted part-way through a physical page, I aways find my self re-reading from the top? But I love the actual act of reading a physical book. I love the feeling of turning that final page, looking back at the cover and shelving it along with the other books I've loved. I love being curled up in bed or on the couch with a real book at night.

    I love both :)

  6. Hi Sarah,

Everneath is on the top of my TBR pile. The cover is so beautiful that I want a print copy to display on my bookshelf when I'm done reading it. I hear it is a fantastic book. Hope you're enjoying it :)

I love being surrounded by books. I agree, shelving a great book after reading it is so fun and such a phenomenal feeling. I have my bookshelves in my family room so that I can look at them all the time. Reading on my Kindle is more convenient, but the act of actually curling up with a book is amazing. Great comment! Thanks for sharing :)
